On Sunday the 30th of June 2013, Avion raceway hosted round two of the local club series. A cool morning welcomed 22 buggy drivers and 8 truggy drives to the drivers briefing which was promptly concluded by race controller, Douglas Dyer.
As usual, four rounds of qualifying with two to count would divide the buggy drivers into an A and B final whilst the truggys would have the same qualifying rounds with only an A final.
This time round, Douglas agreed to run the qualifying system similar to a national event in which the cars would start from the pit area in sequence, following the short-course of the track and then have a rolling start in which each cars timer would start only once they crossed the start/finish line.
JQ Products Officially Release THEeCar
THEeCar is finally here! Here being all around the world in hobby shops! They have shipped and arrived at most of our distributors! THEeCar has ironically proved to be more successful it's nitro big brother. Painful to admit but true, multiple podiums and even some wins in USA at Grassroots and JBRL Events, a win at the Russian RedBull GP and win at the Rhein Main Warm Up in Germany just in the last few weeks.
THEeCar uses the same front and rear gearbox assemblies as the nitro version, with only the chassis, left sideguard, centre diff/ motormount and dogbones being different. The body is also different, but the same one is now used on the wide chassis for the nitro.
Avion Raceway Club race 1
Avion Raceway hosted round one of the local club series which took part on the 24th of March 2013. This would run independently to the RCX challenge and would be held over a series of 5 events.
On arrival, we found that the overnight rain prevented an early start and with no hesitation, Allan had the guys out removing surface water and dusting the track with saw dust to get the racing underway. It was not long before the track was opened for a short practice session whilst Douglas Dyer (who would run race control for the day) registered all the drivers and setup the squading list and race schedule.
Held on the 17th of February 2013, saw the first round of the RCX challenge get off to a flying start at Avion Raceway located in Kempton Park, Johannesburg. This series would be held over five rounds with both Avion and Meyerton Raceway hosting two events and a single event up at Komatipoort in Mpumalanga. The weather was perfect and the track smooth and dusty. Everyone was ready for a day filled with action.
Held on the 26th of January 2013 saw Avion Raceway located in Kempton Park, Johannesburg, South Africa host the season “kickoff” annual fun day / night race. With a turnout of that similar to a National event, the locals at the track were simply blown away by the support received.
